Royal Ascot Day Two

Dawn Approach made it the perfect four yesterday as he bounded away to land the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot yesterday and remain unbeaten. Jim Bolger’s 2-yo fulfilled expectation under Kevin Manning travelling well throughout the 6f. It was an educated ride from Manning in the saddle as its well-known that Dawn Approach likes to switch off during races and so he got to work early on the 9/2 shot so there could be no excuses. He reacted to Manning’s urgings and found and found and found fending off all challengers. It was our NAP of the day yesterday on Day One of Royal Ascot and an early price of 9/2 meant we made significant profit of our five-point stake.

Good morning punters…!

With a fascinating day one of Ascot behind us and a small profit we look to the second day where there are another six meetings to get stuck into including the featured race of the day – the Prince of Wale’s Stakes, where SO YOU THINK will seek to land his sixth Group 1 race. There is also a captivating renewal of the Queen Mary Stakes where GRAPHIC GUEST has solid claims in the scheme of things. We will be providing followers with another lucky 15 and daily double, hoping for a few winners today with lots of value about.

So the Queen wore a blue hat on day one of Royal Ascot, a prediction that was priced up at 6/1 with most bookies. What colour will it be for Ladies Day? Apricot or Peach is the punters favourite at 5/1 @OddsChecker ( (Photo –

2.30 Jersey Stakes

A tricky 23-run race to open day two of Royal Ascot, in a race where the eventual winner will probably have the potential of a Group 2 or even a Group 1 race. With several promising types with six or seven potential to improve its a tough race to pick a winner. The favourite Sentaril is a 9/2 shot for William Haggas. She scored stylishly at Newbury and Doncaster over todays 7f trip and probably just about warrants favouritism in a huge field under Johnny Murtagh. Another likely to be supported is Irish Guineas third Reply who looks the pick of the Ballydoyle pair with Joseph O’Brien chosing the mount over Ishvana and so has to be considered. With the sheer amount of runners going to post Valbchek also made our shortlist out of Jeremy Noseda’s yard. Saddled by Ryan Moore – who already has a Royal Ascot 2012 winner to his name in Simenon yesterday landing the Ascot Stakes at 8/1. Winning at Lingfield and a valuable race at Newmarket he has to be considered. But both of these wins were over a furlong shorter than todays distance and so there is some doubt whether he’ll get the trip.

With all this in mind we finally decided on ALJAMAAHEER as our selection in the opening race. This lightly raced 3-yo colt out of the Roger Varian stable won his trial impressively at Newmarket over todays distance and looks like he is going to get ground to suit under Hanagan. Impressing on debut at Yarmouth winning by a length and three-quarters he was narrowly denied at Newbury by three-lengths in testing conditions which were always unlikely to suit. He was denied by Gregorian that day, a horse out of the Gosden yard who finished a less than a length third in the St James’s Palace Stakes yesterday which has surely franked the form. The fact that Aljamaaheer got within three-lengths of him on ground that was certain not to have suited (soft) he is sure to go well today. It was good to see him bounce back to his best at Newmarket proving quicker ground is in his favour – ground he’ll get at Royal Ascot today over a distance we know he’s proved himself at.

GYTO selection: ALJAMAAHEER 5/1

GYTO Danger: Valbchek 6/1

3.05 Windsor Forest Stakes

A fascinating renewal with thirteen horses going to post. The market has seen hefty support for CHACHAMAIDEE an improver for Sir Henry Cecil who he referred to as the female Frankel after her emphatic Lingfield success sieving through the field to get up late on. But it won’t be no easy task today with the proven Group 1 winner Emulous for Dermot Weld down to Group 2 company today having completed a four-timer. Nahrain completes the shortlist and is held in great esteem for Roger Varian. She is making her seasonal bow but warrants respect now plying her trade at Group 2 level.

GYTO selection: CHACHAMAIDEE 4/1

GYTO Danger: Emulous 10/3

Chachamaidee looks like she’s found her feet for Sir Henry Cecil and the once referred to ‘Female Frankel‘ can continue her improvement in the Windsor Forest Stakes at the expense of Group 1 winner Emulous. (Photo –
