Royal Ascot Day Three

CLASSY SO YOU THINK LANDS PRINCE OF WALES STAKES

SO YOU THINK was given a complimentary ride by young Joseph O’Brien as he quickened clear inside the final furlong leaving rivals for dead. It meant we landed the GYTO NAP two days running. We seek the hat-trick in the featured race of the day in COLOUR VISION in the Gold Cup. (Photo – http://sportsboundguide.com/royal-ascot-2012-so-you-think-wins-prince-of-waless-stakes/)

Good morning punters!

Despite making a loss overall yesterday we made a profit at Royal Ascot for the second day running with the NAP of the day SO YOU THINK winning comfortably. CEILING KITTY added to the winners – a 20/1 shot and put us firmly in profit come 6pm. Its another busy one today and we fancy COLOUR VISION in the featured race of the day the Gold Cup. Best of luck if your following today.

2.30 CAY VERDE 7/2 NB 4 point win

Won a soft-ground maiden at Ascot when beating Hototo who of course went on to win the the Windsor Castle Stakes yesterday. Mick Channon’s 2-yo has also won a Listed event at the Curragh on good-ground when beating Dylanbaru comfortably, who ran out a creditable third in the Windsor Castle Stakes. Its obvious he goes well on any ground but with the forecast set for more rain with already 8mm overnight the going will definitely be on the soft side and he holds particularly strong form when beating the eventual Windsor Castle Stakes winner. The danger in the race would have to be AHERN who shaped well on debut when winning at Musselburgh on good-to-soft and could bring about any significant amount of improvement.

3.05 VOW 13/2 3 point EW

We have followed this filly from the beginning for William Haggas and we are convinced there is more to come yet. We put all our eggs in one basket when tipping her up for the Oaks when she went down just two-lengths on a track and ground that wasn’t sure to suit. It is thought that the camber did not suit and that a strongly run 1m4f could be the key. She begun her career winning a maiden at Newbury on Soft ground but it wasn’t until her Lingfield Oaks trial where she demonstrated her devastating turn of foot. Despite overcoming greenness at Epsom to finish a two-length fourth in the Oaks she didn’t really take to the track or ground that day (good) and conditions look sure to suit today at Royal Ascot. The obvious danger has to be the also eye-catching THE FUGUE under William Buick who was somewhat unlucky in a roughly run race at Epsom. At the forecasted prices and sticking to our loyalties we cannot oppose VOW and we hope she can get back on track today.

It is likely that Epsom didn’t suit the William Haggas-trained VOW with the camber and pace of race not ideal. Has a definite chance in a tough race to pick apart with Oaks runners with a particularly poor record in the Ribblesdale Stakes. 3.45 COLOUR VISION 5/1 NAP 4 point win

An intriguing renewal of the Gold Cup with the old guard Fame And Glory and Opinion Poll going head-to-head once more. We started thinking about this race a few weeks ago and seeing the steady progression COLOUR VISION has made its hard for us to oppose at the prices. We were always going to take on Fame And Glory who looks like his time reigning over these could be near. Frankie has already admitted that the reason he has opted for COLOUR VISION over Opinion Poll is that despite his love for Opinion Poll he cannot beat Fame And Glory and he has to opt for the younger, more unexposed horse. There is strong suspicion that COLOUR VISION is progressing and his impressive staying Group 3 win on seasonal return has to be respected. With conditions ever changing it makes for a really interesting race, with softer ground likely to play into the hands of mud-slogger GULF OF NAPLES who could be a valued EW shot at 40/1.

COLOUR VISION a progressive stayer who broke the track record with an impressive Group 3 win on return, major player and has to be respected. (Photo – http://www.godolphin.com/PhotoGalleryMain.aspx?gid=1273)

4.25 TRADER JACK 10/1 2 point EW

Lightly raced colt for Roger Charlton who showed his best form when chasing home the progressive Grandeur by two-and a quarter lengths when upped to 1m2f at Goodwood last time. He has been raised 3lb for that promising second and it is no doubt a tougher race today at Royal Ascot but with improvement expected and the fact he has proven form over a mile (strong traveller) he has to be respected and has a big chance under James Doyle.

5.00 GRANDEUR 7/1 3 point EW

We have debated on this race for much of the last week with the forecast ever changing and despite the softening ground we fancy GRANDEUR to resume winning ways. He was a tad disappointing on heavy ground at Sandown on reappearance but was progressive on firm ground otherwise. He is weighted well today and we are convinced he can act on todays ground with Sandown too testing to right him off. TRADER JACK running well in the race before will only strengthen his claims. The obvious danger would have to be STARBOARD for the in-form William Buick, who is a potentially very smart colt for John Gosden.

5.35 SPARKLING PORTRAIT 16/1 2 point EW

One thing in favour of Fahey’s colt even if the draw is not, is the ground. Having progressed well to win 1m2f handicaps on soft at Newmarket and Beverley. He was somewhat disappointing at Musselburgh when upped to 1m4f, but he was forced wide and hampered 2f out before staying on again suggesting he’ll be better than the form suggests. He has a positive regarding his dam who is a 1m4f winner. The danger would have to be GABRIAL THE GREAT who also looks capable of better but the ground may be of some concern and interesting to hear Ladbrokes taking him on this morning.
