CAMELOT LANDS THIRD CLASSIC OF THE SEASON DESPITE GROUND ISSUES

Camelot holds off Born To Sea in the Irish Derby

Camelot ran in totally different conditions than that experienced at Epsom at the start of June and with a field of just five runners going to post, faced an easier challenge than when landing the Investec Derby. He settled well in fourth just behind pacemaker Astrology and travelled well for the majority of the race. When the light bulb went out on the pacemaker – earlier than normal giving you some idea of how soft the ground was, Joseph O’Brien had to keep him from going off on a tangent as he drifted left under pressure. Something we have seen him do before giving us some idea about how he was coping, or wasn’t coping with the state of the ground. Despite this, he still had too much class for this small field and broke away with only Born To Sea the plausible danger. The 3-yo ran a blinder after disappointing in the 2,000 Guineas and St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and may well be on an upward curve now for John Oxx. Good morning punters!

Another busier Sunday ahead than usual with some high quality action from France, at Chantilly where French Fifteen looks the bet of the day having been given some rough treatment in running last time out in a Group 1 early last month. The 3-yo runs in another Group 1 today in the Prix Jean Prat over a mile where eight go to post. There are three meetings in the UK to get stuck into as well, on the flat at Windsor and Salisbury and over jumps at Uttoxeter. There is also more flat action over in Ireland at the Curragh continuing on from yesterdays card where Camelot won the Irish derby fending off a late challenge from Born To Sea. We are off to the cricket today at the Oval where England take on Australia in a one day international. Good luck if your following us today and having a punt.
