Saturday 25th August Selections

With the Ebor meeting concluding today, CAMBORNE looks a fair price to land the prestigious mile-and-three quarters handicap for John Gosden and William Buick. He’ll be remembered for his taking victory in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot, where he left rivals for dead sprinting clear late on. He showed an emphatic turn of foot that day overcoming all sorts of trouble in the rear before thundering home. He is into the unknown today running over 1m6f for the first time in his career. His striking wins at 1m4f last two starts though suggest he’ll stay the trip, especially when coming away at the line latest. John Gosden and William Buick have endured a remarkable season and they can go one better today in the Betfred Ebor at 3.40 today. (Photo –

Good morning punters!

It’s been a memorable week at York with some taking performances, none more so than Frankel again excelling, this time in the Juddmonte Stakes. He stepped up to 10f for the first time in his career, and despite breaking slow travelling in the rear for much of the race, sauntered clear on the bridle to win by seven lengths to Godolphin’s Farhh. We have been blessed to see such a remarkable animal and rumours are circulating that he may attempt the ark in his final race of his career.

Thought Worthy was as game as they come to land the Neptune on Wednesday with Main Sequence finishing second. Frustration must be growing for Lanigan’s 3-yo who has underachieved, none more so at York on Wednesday.

Thursdays racing was overshadowed by the disturbing scenes in the Lowther Stakes where Newfangled broke down. They did manage to get her to the stables and it was thought she had a pelvic injury. News began circulating on twitter that she would never race again, despite no bones being broken. Unfortunately, as first feared, it was a pelvic injury. It was an injury, sadly they couldn’t put right and Gosden’s promising 2-yo had to be put down yesterday.

Dermot Weld was back in the winners enclosure with Pale Mimosa who outstayed rivals to land the 1m4f listed race, from Sir Michael Stoute’s Sequence.

The Aussie mare Ortensia was the star of the show yesterday as she came from a seemingly impossible position to land the Nunthorpe Stakes. She raced on the far side where the ground was definitely firmer. Bated Breath couldn’t quicken on the ground, as Roger Charlton later tweeted. Wentworth confirmed promise in the Convivial Maiden as the penny dropped late on flying home to deny Lord Of The Garter.

Huge anticipation today as the Ebor takes centre stage. We fancy Camborne to continue his upward curve after taking performances at 1m4f. Saddler’s Rock looks a solid bet, an improving stayer for John Oxx. Top Notch Tonto could perform a shock result in the Nursery Handicap at a price and shouldn’t be overlooked. Good luck if your having a flutter with GYTO today, it sure is another busy weekend!
